Site maintenance: planned server migration
Posted by Frank Schoep on 6th September, 2007 at 23:10
The server move I indicated earlier will take place on Monday, September 10th around 11:00 GMT+1. After the new server is installed in the datacenter, I will start updating the DNS records for all hosted domains. This DNS transition is expected to be seamless.
Update on September 11th, 2007: the new server has been successfully installed and if you're reading this, everything is working perfectly. The DNS entries will be gradually updated across the world over the course of a week and the old server will be shut down when the migration is finished.
The new server is handling the load very well and the two-hundred-fold bandwidth increase is very noticeable, especially when downloading images and audio from the website. Speaking of which, with the new server available it won't be long before I'm launching the brand new Audio Units website.
Site maintenance: server replacement and migration

Over the course of the next two weeks, I'll be replacing the current Forever For Now server hardware with a much faster dual processor setup and moving it into a professional data center. I will announce the exact date and time of this move in advance.
Last month I have been working hard on several projects and with these out of the way, I'm going to start dedicating more and more time to my Audio Unit business again. Expect a great new website and products to arrive this month!
Update: Major Business Expansion

It's been kind of quiet regarding news and Audio Unit updates on the FFN website, but luckily it's just the silence before the storm. Over the past weeks I've been planning on expanding my Audio Unit business and along with it a new brand, website and technical backend.
I'm well on my way implementing all ideas I have in mind, but it's taking my time away from updating the website. Over the course of August I will be installing a brand new and powerful server in a professional data center, which will majorly improve the speed and reliability of my services.
I'm proud to be able to tell you that Diatonic Shifter 2 and Reverse Sampler 2 are being received well by their users and that I'll be able to offer even better services and effects in the near future.
Site maintenance: server hardware upgrade

To accomodate for an expected future increase in traffic and activity on the server hosting Forever For Now and other websites, I will be upgrading some of the server components tomorrow. Expected downtime from this is about five minutes after which operation will continue normally.
The server is now back up and running again.
